I Bid You All Farewell

Leaving seems to be the latest trend among my group of friends. Just packing their bags and leaving…They’re all leaving me and I am really sad about this. Such bitter sweet feelings have erupted inside of me.

In the last two months I have said goodbye to 5 of my friends. Each of them seeking adventure in different parts of  South Africa and the world. One friend is off to teach English in Thailand, my cousin is off to the USA and one has set up home in London. The other 2 have moved out of Cape Town one to Port Elizabeth and the other to Durban.

As I am sad to say goodbye to them, I am so excited for them, the new adventures, people and experiences they will encounter will be remarkable. Yes, I won’t see them and we won’t share those memories physically with each other anymore, but we will always be friends. Tied together by our past memories and bound by endless ways to stay in contact. This is the moment where I jump for joy and thank God for the INTERNET!

So Skype calls, Facebook stalking and tweeting will become our virtual home. Where I can live vicariously through all  my friends adventures and secretly pray that one day I will get a chance to travel and live my adventure, but for today I will say Au-revoir, bon voyage. I bid you farewell with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye!

So We Came We Saw & Most Importantly Danced…

The day of the show that we all have been working our butts off to produce happened on Saturday at the CTICC. Dreams into Reality came to life. With a tense afternoon filled with a  dress rehearsal and getting sound and lighting in place it was a hectic rush for all dancers and backstage crew.

Jesus never said it would be easy, but He said it would be worth it! (Matt 7:13-14)

Auditorium 1  at the CTICC soon became buzzing with crowds of people excited to see the show.  Before we knew it, it was show time. There was some technical sound glitches in the beginning and I sat in my seat anxious and nervous that they would just keep going and not be thrown off  cue. The leads in the show did good. Even though they’re not all trained actors they remembered their lines and when they didn’t, they improvised so well that not a single person in the audience knew it was not part of the script.

I sat in my seat excited as I have seen parts of the show a million times over in rehearsal but never fully put together. Something magical happens to every dancer and actor on show night they just give it 150% and come alive on the stage. Each member of the cast bringing their own talent to the party.

It was amazing to see all the hard work determination and passion displayed on the stage. Such a powerful story of dreaming bigger than the situation you come from and not to be defined by drugs, alcohol, violence or even physical disabilities. For many of the cast it was their first time to be on a stage of that magnitude performing to such a large crowd of people who have paid money to see the show.

This show was inspiring, entertaining, funny and most of all the dancing was breathtaking. Every single dancer who performed has great gifts that has been moulded and crafted by a great choreographer Jason Meyer. I always knew he was a great dancer but what I saw on the stage on Saturday blew me away and every dancer must be so appreciative to be taught by this dancing genius. Then the show could not go on without Ivy Meyer, who has the biggest dream and heart of all. She had a vision and brought it to life. Script writing directing and producing the entire show and not forgetting spending a small fortune to get the show to the CTICC too.

Without her none of this would have been possible. Not forgetting SACDA’s dancers, Gladys Bullock put a great amount of effort into getting her Latin and ballroom dancers into great shape too and  mixed in the wheelchair dancers it was a true inspiration. To see those big smiles on all those dancers faces. It truly lit up the stage and just gave it that extra sparkle.

The reviews have been outstanding with many people who have missed the show asking when the next one will be. So it may be coming back who knows what God has in store for all of us. It is a great privilege to be on stage and the adrenalin and excitement and hard work the cast put in I am sure made them hungry for more.

This show taught me know matter where you come from and no matter your physical disability together with passion, hard work, determination and God all things are possible.

Dream Big and make them a Reality!!

Bieber Fever is Real…

English: Justin Bieber at the Sentul Internati...

English: Justin Bieber at the Sentul International Convention Center in West Java, Indonesia (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

As most of you know the phenomenon called Beiber Fever, it  is as real as it gets. I felt I needed to share this story since he graced us with his presence last month. I have never experienced anything like it. Very glad to say I have been there done that and didn’t buy the T-Shirt but everyone else did lol.

A hint of it started in October when tickets were released. Courteney and I randomly joked a few months prior not  knowing if Justin was coming to South Africa. That we would make sure to get Golden circle tickets as we were both very excited at just the thought.

Then we found out he was coming and I was more scared than excited trying to figure out how to get my hands on those Golden circle tickets. The day arrived and the tickets were being released at 9 am. I was on the phone with Computicket in the online queue and  Courteney in the a real queue at a ticket outlet. Nerves, hands shaking, voice breaking as time drew closer to 9 am. I will never forget that day as soon as I said 2 Golden circle tickets to the operator  on the phone my heart felt like it skipped a beat, eagerly awaiting his reply.  All that stress nerves and anxiety for nothing…. but disappointment all tickets were sold out! The 2 words that I did not want to hear, I heard! Dreams of seeing Justin up close and personal shattered. I could not believe that me a grown woman could feel that disappointed.

I was more disappointed because I had to break the news to Courteney who had a heart set on those tickets. We made peace with the fact that we had general standing tickets and moved on with our lives.

Until time drew closer and I could feel the fever reach boiling point  in the air. Now Courteney in my eyes is the ultimate Beleiber. She was not going to rest and not going to slam it with the rest of us folk who missed the boat with the Golden Circle tickets.  No not this Beleiber. The day before the concert her friend told her a friend of his had a Golden circle ticket for sale. It was like finding the golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Needless to say, I was quickly ditched in general standing while she continued to hustle her way into Golden Circle. After standing in a queue since 1 pm the afternoon. While I was at work listening away to Justin Bieber tunes in my headphones (getting myself concert ready). Believe Acoustic amazeballs shameless plug if you have not heard it, even if you not into the Biebs listen to it and hear that boy sing, it is really good.

Super excited for the concert I made my way to Cubana for quick bite to eat with a friend before heading off to the stadium. I love concert time a major guilty pleasure of mine I crave the jovial atmosphere of excitedness. Now I knew I had to be prepared for high pitched screaming and beleiberness. I don’t think you can prepare for that as much as you try. As I  walked up from work I got a hint of what I to be expected but I was still very excited.

I got a table while waiting for my friend and as I looked up I saw this guy that looked oddly familiar sitting not too far from me. It was Caspar Lee, my South African YouTube addiction, I never get all star struck and shy but I could not explain what was happening to me. I felt like his oldest fan as I noticed these swarms of  teen  girls come up to him and asked for an autographs and pictures.

All I wanted to do was just say hello but not be all fan girl crazy, needless to say that didn’t quite happen as I felt like a shy schoolgirl sitting by myself waiting for my friend and sneaking a glimpse of him every now and then, lol

My friend came and saved me from myself ever so slightly as I made her watch a few of his videos before so she was aware of who he was. She forced me to build up enough courage and ask him for a picture. I managed to get him just as he was leaving. He is so tall and a real nice guy. I think all I managed to say was “hi can I have a picture please” his reply “sure” posed for picture and I think I managed to say a shy “ Thank you and enjoy the show.” My ultimate loser, stalker, nerd, fan girl moment of my life and I have picture to remind me of this forever.

My Captured Moment with Caspar Lee

My Captured Moment with Caspar Lee

I am meandering off topic here  as YouTube and  Caspar Lee can be an entire blog post on its own, back to the Biebs. We headed off to the stadium and made our way to general standing. The atmosphere was energetic and electrifying, We got there  just as Locnville started to perform. They were amazing, good beats to get everyone amptd for Justin Bieber.

Then Justin performed and the earth shattering screams came from everywhere. He is a great performer, the sound was terrible and I think general standing are the ultimate worst tickets in the stadium. Minus my bad experiences that has nothing to do with Justin as a performer. I  had a good time I won’t rank it as  mind blowing but it was an experience I will never forget . I appreciate Justin as a real artist and a performer and if ever I get to see him perform again I would grab the opportunity.

This is how Justin Beiber affected Courteney,  she hustled hard for a GC ticket saw him up close danced her feet off screamed her lungs out and cried her eyes out now that’s the symptoms of #Bieberfever the ultimate #Belieber

4 Days to Showtime…

I am not even part of the cast of Dreams into Reality but I am just as nervous and anxious as the cast.

Dreams into Reality Just a few more days and we’re taking to the stage- tension is rising, stress is growing but under God’s Control all things are possible. Ivy Meyer

This weekend has been manic with practice for the cast trying to put posters up and spread the word as this is the last week of marketing to get this to be a sold out show. A near robbery on Saturday’s practice put the show into perspective for all.

A young man came in and stole some of the dancers belongings and took off. He was spotted and in no time some of the male dancers and one of the parents in a car sped off after him. He ducked underneath the subway at Wittebome station but was caught by our dancers and the stolen goods  were recovered. They brought him back into the school and we called the police. When the police got there, they searched him and found a supply of drugs taped to various parts of his body. He was subsequently arrested and locked up.

What makes this story so incredible is that the production “Dreams into Reality” aims to raise awareness on the very real issues of gangsterism, drugs and crime so prevalent in our communities. In fact, there is a scene where the premises of one of the practice halls was vandalised and the very dancer whose things were stolen Saturday has the same thing happen to her in the drama! It was amazing to see the dancers come together in that time and not let what’s happening in the communities happen to them.

This show has spoken truth into every single person that has come together to help out. Together Dreams can be turned into Reality. Life is tough and if we can inspire just one person that comes to support all our hard work on stage and behind the scenes to pull this off, it will be a dream come true.

This show has brought me closer to God, closer to my mother, sister and closer to my passion, helping so many talented people stand on a stage and show off what they can do. Even though I  play a small part behind the scenes in the bigger picture I am grateful to play any part. This is the crucial week where we pull miracles out of hats and I believe all things are possible through the mighty God we serve.

I am excited to see the end result on Saturday night.

So We Painted the Town Gold…

You’re probably thinking, don’t you mean you painted the town Red…. Nope I mean what I said, we painted the town Gold, Mathew Gold to be exact.

If you’re from South Africa you must know who I am talking about. An amazing young talented guy set to take the SA music industry by storm. I am proud to say I know this guy from school days. I was 2 years ahead of him at Pinelands High School but  good friends of mine and my cousin was in his year and are still good friends with him today.

He released his first single No Ordinary Guy featuring Hip Hop sensation AKA and it has become a hit currently number 3 on the 5fm top 40 and getting him to number 1 will be absolute dream come true.

To get him to that number 1 spot Tweet @5fm #noordinayguy @mathewgoldmusic #top40  Do it now!

His had an amazing career thus far, “Taking it Easy” a colab he did with GoodLuck catapulted his career and GoodLuck putting them on the fast track to be forces to be reckoned with in the music industry. Their unique sound, groovy beats and Mathew’s soulful vocals were a winning combination. So much so that Goodluck signed him and produced his album called the Rush soon to be released.

He’s currently doing an unplugged promo tour at a  few cozy intimate venues around Cape Town for the month of June. I went with a few friends to Orphanage to watch him perform. I am not being biased because I know him but he was so good, so good that I want to watch him again. His soulful vibe is magnetic, singing some of his new songs, redoing some of GoodLuck’s tracks and some covers we can all sing along too. What a fun night out.

If you’re looking for something to do to warm up these cold  winter nights, checking out Mathew Gold this month is highly recommended and believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Finding my Dream, my Purpose,my Passion…

I have been  on the fence with my career path for awhile not sure if I am doing the right thing and feeling very frustrated about it, as I like to know things and put my all into everything I do. I prayed about it hoping for an answer but continued life as I know it.

My mom has been telling me to get involved with Courteney’s dance school for so long and I have just been like “yeah sure I will.” In the midst of me trying to figure out my purpose I eventually got roped into helping out the dance school and what a blessing it has been.

My mom and I decided to tag team and do the marketing and PR for Out of Africa Dance Academy(OOA), a Hip Hop school from Wynberg. Me, with my Social Media knowledge and mom’s great wordsmith skills, we got cracking on marketing their upcoming production “Dreams into Reality”.

“Dreams into Reality” where Courteney is one of the dancers and first time actor. Keep tuned  in for Courts piece on the show through a Dancers Eyes where she will fill you in on being on stage and all that jazz.

Me, I like to be behind the scenes, I was tasked to set up the OOA facebook page and event for the show. I do all the posts on the page and upload pictures, videos, announcements and events. My mom and I wrote to all the radio stations appealing for some publicity  and TV shows. Feeling very discouraged with no responses but then  Expresso Morning show on SABC3 decided to give them a slot.

That was amazing and thank them so much for all they have done for us. If you missed it, I will put the links below of the 3 clips, an interview with the Director of OOA and 2 dance clips. The publicity has been more than we could ask for and we pray for a  sold out show. If you would like to find out more about “Dreams into Reality” please check out the Facebook events page. http://www.facebook.com/events/175123432651993/

Not only does this show have a great meaning turning Dreams into Reality, through dance and theater. We want to help take the youth off the street by giving them a platform where they can use their talents in a positive manner too. My passion is helping others, and I got to use my knowledge of marketing and organising things to good use.

The show is about two weeks away and still so much to do but I trust all will be done in time, like they say in show business “The show must go on.” I am so excited to see it all come together and be inspired to turn my Dream into Reality. Being part of this production has already made part of my Dream come true!

Let’s Get Started…

As it’s our very first blog post as a duo we thought it would only be fair to introduce ourselves to you. So who are we? We’re sisters born and breed in Cape Town, both very different but so alike. We vary quite largely in age a 8O’s kid and a 90’s kid. According to Courteney I should be married and out the house by now LOL but strangely it ain’t so and don’t really see it in my near future but that’s an entire blog post for another day!
